ever noticed that japanese designers always come back to military themes over and over again and that they do it loads better than the americans, the british, the italians, or the french? from camouflage, to naval uniforms, to flight jackets, to the iconic trench coat, those japanese sure know how to deconstruct and reconstruct all our western fashion archetypes. i reckon its one of the advantages of being an outsider looking in. which works well for me because i've never met a piece of clothing with epaulets i didn't like.

THE BROTHERS BOUROULLEC
design duo and siblings ronan and erwan bouroullec are perhaps my favorite contemporary designers at the moment. mainly because i am pretty fucking besotted with their "steelwood chair" they designed back in 2007. i must say, it is one of the handsomest chairs i have ever seen. just like fashion, i believe that good design should be about function as it is about its aesthetic value. all the while being completely modern by exploring new ideas and expanding on the old ones. i guess to put it in fashion terminology, the bouroullecs are like the helmut lang of industrial design. high praises i know, but i think it rather well deserved.

A.P.C. SPRING/SUMMER 2010
i'm pretty bored with labels and looks that are too "fashion". sometimes all you really need are good classics and you'll never look like a total tosser. as much as i admire designers who brilliantly push the envelope, there's nothing more attractive than a boy who doesn't look like he's trying too hard. kind of like how the model looks like. he's can totally put a ring on it.

BRAIN FOOD
summer is supposed to be the time for hollywood blockbusters. i'm not gonna lie, i'm a big fan of big budget extravaganzas but after the disappointment of "alice in wonderland" and "clash of the titans" i've given up hope (well not necessarily, i'm still waiting for a decent copy of "robin hood" to circulate around the internet). luckily for my brain i've been absorbed watching loads of really quality documentaries that have greatly contributed to making my unemployed time very well spent.

GOT MY NAILS DID
i am a big fan of anything ghetto fabulous. nails, weaves, door knockers, grills...everything! which probably explains my undying love for lil kim and foxy brown and why i can't help but go mental every time i hear "real love" by mary j. blige.
p.s. those aren't my nails. i'm not that gay.
